Patheos.com has published an in-depth piece by Elder Larry Y. Wilson, a member of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that explains why Mormons make good neighbors.
Elder Wilson cites several reasons why Mormons are valuable to a community, including the Church’s health practices, family values, emphasis on obtaining as much education as possible, social engagement, volunteerism, charitable giving, humanitarian efforts and missionary service.
“We want to contribute as followers of Christ to our communities and nations, wherever we may live,” Elder Wilson concludes. “As fellow neighbors come to understand us, and vice versa, misperceptions and prejudices invariably diminish. In turn, meaningful bonds of community will solidify, helping make each of us better friends, citizens, neighbors and, most assuredly, better children of God.”
