SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Coalition for Utah’s Future recognized The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ humanitarian efforts by giving the Church the Common Good Award — an award that recognizes organizations whose values and actions benefit the community as a whole.
Bishop H. David Burton, presiding bishop of the Church, accepted the award on behalf of the First Presidency — the Church’s highest governing body.
“The Church is a great resource to the state and the world,” said Kevin Fayles, community relations manager for the Coalition for Utah’s Future. “I love the fact the Church provides for people regardless of race or religion.”
Humanitarian Services, the Church’s humanitarian arm, not only
responds to emergencies, but provides resources for ongoing
projects. Major projects include clean water to communities,
neonatal resuscitation training, vision treatment training, measles
immunization and wheelchair distribution.
