Missionary work began in Cape Verde in 1988 which resulted in the creation of the Praia/Lajes Branch a short time later.
Since that time 19 congregations have been established with a total membership of more than 3,900.
There are approximately 50 missionaries serving in the country. Some 100 natural-born Cape Verde members have served full-time missions in areas throughout the world.
On 22 February 1998 Gordon B. Hinckley, President of the Church, visited the islands and met with government officials and members of the Church.
