On Sunday, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles organized the 3,000th worldwide stake (similar to a diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The stake is located in Sierra Leone.
The new stake, which has a membership of about 2,250, is made up of eight wards, or congregations. The first branch (small congregation) in Sierra Leone was organized in 1988. There are currently around 10,000 Church members in Sierra Leone.
