Plans to construct the temple were announced 13 January 1995, Church leaders broke ground 10 November 1996, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Cochabamba Bolivia Temple 30 April 2000. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Bolivia.

The exterior of the 33,000-square-foot temple is a blend of hand-hewn Comanche granite and plaster.

Currently, there are 30 temples in various stages of construction, renovation or recently announced throughout the world.
