Church Commits Funds, Volunteers to Vaccinate Children with Global Immunization Partner, GAVI

Good health for the children of the world is a priority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church has participated in an immunization program for many years and this week the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI) expressed gratitude to the worldwide faith for its $1.5 million donation. The Church also committed its network of thousands of volunteers in more than 100 countries to help facilitate vaccinations. In the past decade Latter-day Saint volunteers have worked more than 750,000 hours to immunize children around the world.

The donation will be matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to help raise $260 million for immunizations through 2015.

In addition to its world immunization program Church Humanitarian Services sponsors five ongoing global projects to help people become more self-reliant. The initiatives include neonatal resuscitation training, clean water projects, wheelchair distribution and vision treatment.
